5 Tips to Avoid Paying Full Price For Your Wardrobe
Posted on July 07 2016
There is something thrilling about walking into a store, falling in love with a piece and then realizing it's on sale. You feel like you have hit the jackpot. You break into your happy dance and run up to the register to score your deal. Don't leave it to chance anymore. Here are 5 of my best tips to help you avoid paying full price at your favorite stores.
1. Know the Retail Sales Calendar.
Retailers live by a very strict cycle. They do not just put stuff on sale for the fun of it. There is a specific strategy behind it. If you know in advance when particular items go on sale, you will not have to guess (or hope) you hit the store at the right time. Here is the typical sales calendar.
2. Shop off season
If your size stays pretty consistent from year to year, buy off season. Buy your swimsuit at the end of the season, when swimwear is drastically reduced in price. Your shoe size stays the same from year to year, so buy your boots at the end of the season. Buy your wardrobe staples off season and don't worry about trends. Your classic pieces will always be in style.
3. Know when your favorite stores mark down inventory.
The best way to know when your favorite store does their marking down is to simply ask. If you see a piece you love, ask the clerk when will this piece go on sale. You can ask them if they follow a general mark down schedule. A good rule of thumb is retailers will mark down inventory right before they are getting a new shipment in. They want to make room for the new arrivals, so they will discount what is already on the floor.
4. Ask for the price drop adjustment.
Did you know the majority of retailers will give you a price adjustment if the item you bought drops in price within a set period of time. All you have to do is go back to the store with your receipt and ask for the price adjustment. 5. Sign up for your favorite retailer's email list.
By signing up for their email list you will automatically receive an email when they are having a sale or promotion. Some retailers even provide exclusive deals and coupons to only those on their subscriber list ( just like Kuhfs hint hint! ). This takes the guesswork out of wondering when your favorite store will run their next sale.
I don't know anyone who doesn't like to get a good deal, but no one has time to run from store to store looking for what is on sale. Being an educated consumer is the best way to take advantage of sales and promotions at your favorite retailers. Follow these tips to avoid paying full price at your favorite retailers.
